Outdoor-Lounge

aeronautec: concept, production, assembly, detail steel-element, outdoor-Lounge

To get a weather independent outdoor meeting lounge for all year usage aeronautec has been engaged to concept, produce and assemble a textile roof.
After just 8 weeks of concept, planning and production work aeronautec put a 6-point-textile-element on site. The light construction is made out of 875 m stitch length and sewn with 2176 m of PTFE yarn, with a scale of 55 sqm and a membran weight of 51 kg. It is hold by 58 m of tubebelt and connected to the building by using VA-steel elements six points. The VA-steel construction-elements have also been developed and produced by aeronautec. This sail, produced in their own fabrication is made out of aeroflon, an aeronautec PTFE-material. For more information please visit the Formfinder Project Finder.

SEFAR Material Development

Glass has a poor light scattering surface. The amount of dispersion is ≥ 2%. SEFAR Fabric has the ability to disperse light in multiple directions. The rays of lightlanding on fabric are reflected, scattered and deflected, or refracted.

The reintroduction and increasing demand for long-lasting products makes the application of high-quality materials possible. They can continually satisfy both functional and aesthetic expectations.
A new generation of fabrics
High-tech fabrics are being increasingly employed in modern architecture. In partnership with lighting specialists and polymer experts, Sefar has created a new generation of fabrics. Special finishing and coating techniques ensure a high UV durability without fading, while the materials remain extremely tough and long-lasting. All fabrics in the SEFAR® Architecture range are highly flame-resistant (B1 according to DIN standard 4102), producing nearly no smoke and absolutely free of burning droplets.
Diffuse light
SEFAR® Architectural Fabrics achieve light transmission rates of Epsilon 90%. The transmitted light contains a high proportion of diffused light, also known as scattered light. This gives a balanced illumination by reducing contrasts, especially in shaded areas. The fabric gives the impression of being a light source yet functions as a light diffuser for both natural daylight and artificial lighting. Depending on the choice of fabric, the character of the textile can be either enhanced or reduced.
Useful adjustments
An interesting additional feature: since it is possible to control light and sound atmospheres, deficits resulting from other factors – such as imperfect functional or climatic conditions – can be compensated for.

Limbecker Platz, Essen

Rotunda "Essen", rotunda "Paris" and inside rotunda "Rom"

In Oktober 2009 the new shoppingcenter “Limbecker Platz” opened completely its doors in Essen. On 70.000 qm 200 shops offer a huge mix of products in lifestyle, fashion, and decoration articles. The main architectural elements are the three rotundas. They exploit the levels of the center and give more space to have a look at the shops. The rotundas have certain themes, Paris, Rom and Essen, which are transported by printings on their walls.
Niggemeyer Bildproduktion produced these large format printings that have an over-all dimension of over 186 m by a height of up to 9 meters. Using special foils and primer by 3M and an UV-ink based printing system Niggemeyer realized to produce those 90 big wallpapers. The rotunda “Rom” shows images of Rom printed on 163 panels 1,20 m / 2,50 m up to 1,20 m / 3,60 m with an additional anti-graffiti-protection, 38 panels are of individual format and have been adjusted on the construction site.
To deliver a perfect product concerning printing quality and lifetime several material-tests have been made, to guarantee a high amount of durability. The different system, the print on foils and the print on a panel, deliver different features. The foil-printings for example are covered with a laminate providing mechanical damage to the prints. This lamination offers the possibility to have special solutions as for example an anti-graffiti-foil. Another advantage of the foil-printing is the amount of experience concerning the lifetime of the foils. The ink used by printing on panels is rather new, and there are still no longtime-experiences as they exist about the foils.

Stageroof Rosarium Sangershausen

Sangershausen, a small town near by Halle (Saale), owns the world biggest collection of roses. For touristical purposes indepent from weather conditions the town Sangershausen builded a Stage including a roof. “Novum Structures” as worldwide operating construction company had been engaged to realize the stage roof. “ibz – engineered tensile structures” as an office of engineers that are experts on designing tensile structures by using technical textiles, cable-nets, steel and wood, has been assigend to concept and to calculate the supporting structure of the stage roof.
In order to have a large scale covered by the roof, but not build so high, “ibz” decided to build a textile structure that has two peaks. By giving a symmetrie to the roof the planning and calculating work could be reduced to minimum. In order to that the planning process could be completed after only two month and in addition “Novum Structures” could construct and put the roof on site after another two month. The roof made out of PVC/PES type IV has a surface from 1095 qm and covers an area of nearly 963 qm, and has an over all height of just 16m. DAR LUZ, Temporary Public Art Installation, Eindhoven GLOW

Images by Johann Creemers and Nandoo

We were invited to participate in GLOW 2008, “An International Forum of Light in Art and Architecture” in Eindhoven, Netherlands, curated by Bettina Pelz and Tom Groll. “GLOW in November 2008 follows the conceptual framing in which art works and architectural interventions, based on artificial light, became temporarily part of public urban spheres.” There were twenty participants internationally. Considering light, fabric and sound as the main materials and media, this interactive installation engaged the audience in an aural and audio-visual theater.
Set in a semi-enclosed urban space the rigorous rhythm of the wood scaffold, our main ordering device for the light, sound, movement and form, was complemented by other systems. This self-exploratory catwalk was fitted by a series of laser curtains placed in a rhythmic order within the scaffold in order to provoke a sense of exploration. As one traveled through these plains their mass was scanned in a continually animated couture line and triggered the lighting and sound systems which corresponded to the size and speed of the individual, changing the intensity and pulsation of the ambient light and sound, which was composed by Andreas Pasieka (light-technician: Mattes Boeser). Everyone effected this 22 m long and 3,5 m wide environment and the ultimate atmosphere uniquely.
Our general interest in fabric is that it blurs the boundaries of architecture and fashion. Practically and economically one of the most viable materials, the chosen Spandex-fabric is so flexible and versatile that we could not anticipate up front. During 10 days 130.000 visitors passed through the installation.
The project was awarded by:  International Achievement Award 2009: by Industrial Fabrics Association International, IFAI. “For 60 years, the International Achievement Awards have recognized skillful design, technological innovation and excellence in the specialty fabrics industry.” 416 Projects from 17 countries were considered this year and Dar Luz has received one of the highest honors, Outstanding Achievement Award. The AIA Honor Award: by American Institute of Architects, Small Projects Honor Award, 2009. For more information please visit the Formfinder Project Finder.
